Gregor Gysi

Gregor Gysi, born on January 16, 1948, in Berlin, is a prominent German politician and lawyer. He rose to prominence as a defense lawyer for critics of the East German regime and took over the leadership of the SED-PDS in 1989, guiding it through the fall of the Wall and shaping it into what became the Left Party.
